Product Info
Vajrayogini embodies the wisdom energy of fearless and transformation. To recognize her as inseparable from the emptiness of one's innermost nature is to stand blowing on a sun and moon disc and to trample beneath one's feet the petty emotions and preoccupations that confine us to the unenlightened state. To embody Vajrayogini's exalted qualities is to be naked before the world and adorned only in bone ornaments and a necklace of fifty - one skulls - the trophies of having severed the roots of all mental illusions. In her right hand, Vajrayogini holds a curved knife and, in the other, a skull cup filled with blood. Holding aloft this essence of the life force - or by other accounts, the nectar of choice less awareness - she pours it down her open throat. A Tantric staff rests against her left shoulder, symbolizing the awakening of bliss within the psychic channel that parallels the spine and flowers at the heart. As a female icon of enlightened energy, Vajrayogini transforms worldly passions into luminous awareness. Vajrayogini is the female form of an enlightened Buddha, the one who brings all actions to miraculous fruition.

Thanka is traditionally framed in borders of silk brocade. The brocade frame of the Thanka also holds symbolic meaning. The inner frame of brocade (often red) can be thought of as a rainbow gateway beyond which lies the pure land inhabited by the deity the Thanka represents. Attached to the top of the frame is a rectangle of colored silk which is long enough to hang all the way down to the bottom of the painting. This acts as a cover for the Thankga and allows it to be 'put to sleep' when it is not in use, as well as acting as a protective dust cover to keep the painting safe when it is stored. This material is usually woven in China and can use either Chinese motifs or more rarely nowadays traditional Tibetan designs. The finished painting is sewn within a brocade frame and finished with ribbons and silk to protect the image.
